This class is an intensive program designed to be equivalent to the first half of a year-long study of general chemistry. The class will begin by learning the structure of the atom, and then why atoms combine the way they do to form various substances. These concepts will also be used to explain why different substances have different chemical properties. Additional topics covered include stoichiometry, aqueous solutions, thermochemistry, and gases. This program provides hands-on laboratory experience with fundamental techniques in chemical measurement, synthesis, and analysis while emphasizing safety and precision. Altogether, this will prepare students for the second half of summer general chemistry, and / or other studies that require a half year or less of general chemistry.
