In this class we will read portions of books by Virginia Woolf and James Joyce, and poems by T.S. Eliot.

We'll read them with the aim of performing these texts for an audience.

Among the texts we'll read will be:ÌýOrlando,ÌýMrs Dalloway,ÌýThree GuineasÌý(Woolf), portions ofÌýUlyssesÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýFinnegans WakeÌý(Joyce), andÌýFour Quartets,ÌýÌýThe Love Song of J. Alfred Profrock, and other poems by Eliot.

This will require reading the texts for their potential for performance: When is something open to performance?Ìý When (and why) is it not suitable for performance?

These questions, and others, we'll explore, while making performances of these texts.

There will be five performance projects, based on texts by these writers. Four of them will be for the class, and the final one will be a public performance for the Â鶹Çø community.

Each student will be asked to write a paper and give a class presentation about aspects of these writers' works that interest them.
